If you're abroad and your data connection isn't working, here's a general order to check things — works regardless of which provider you're using.
- 1.
Confirm data roaming is on.
The most common cause. Check Settings → Mobile/Cellular → your eSIM line → Data Roaming, and make sure it's on for the line you're trying to use.
- 2.
Restart your phone, or toggle Airplane Mode.
Either forces the phone to re-attach to a network from scratch. Wait 10–15 seconds before turning Airplane Mode back off.
- 3.
Check you're on the right line.
If you have two eSIMs or a SIM plus an eSIM, confirm the correct one is set as your active data line.
- 4.
Try manual network selection.
Settings → Mobile/Cellular → Network Selection, turn off "Automatic," and pick a network yourself. Phones sometimes lock onto a weak signal and won't switch on their own.
- 5.
Check your balance or plan status.
Log into your provider's app or site and confirm your plan hasn't expired or run out of data.
- 6.
Reinstall the eSIM profile if needed.
If it shows as installed but still won't connect, the profile may be corrupted. Many providers let you re-scan the original QR code to reinstall it on the same phone.
- 7.
Confirm the country is actually covered.
Some plans exclude specific countries. Worth checking your provider's coverage list before assuming something's broken.
